If we detain people without hearings, wiretap our own citizens, and torture people on mere suspicions, the terrorists have won, because we have given up everything our country has stood for.

Um ... Looks like we have given up everything our country has stood for.

Arise Mutant Nation

Hey Mike,

I have never been mystified by the conservative elite. They have a simple, easy-to-understand agenda.

More money … more power … More of whatever it takes to continue to consolidate power and accumulate more wealth. They shamelessly lie cheat and steal while constantly rigging the game in their favor. Throughout the Bush Regime and now during Obama’s tenure we see their agenda played out daily. All you have to do is pick up a newspaper. Illegal wars. No-bid contracts. Wall Street Bailouts. Each move calculated to increase the bottom line of the “More” Agenda.

Nope. There’s no mystery behind the machinations of the conservative elite. It pays off for them.

But …

What has confounded me has been why the conservative base supports the “More” Agenda when they have never benefited from it?

We’ve seen the propaganda spewed out daily by FOX and the Limbaugh clones work on the minds of the conservative base. We’ve seen over twenty years of lies eating away at the brains of millions of Americans and we’ve all heard about the Authoritarian personality.

From Wikipedia:

The authoritarian personality is an influential theory of personality developed by UC Berkeley psychologists, Theodor W. Adorno, Else Frenkel-Brunswik, Daniel Levinson, and Nevitt Sanford. The personality type is defined by nine traits that were believed to cluster together as the result of psychodynamic, childhood experiences. These traits are:

authoritarian submission,
authoritarian aggression,
seeking to maintain the status quo,
power and "toughness,"
destructiveness and cynicism,
and exaggerated concerns over sexuality (sexual repression).

In brief, the authoritarian is predisposed to follow the dictates of a strong leader and traditional, conventional values.

So it’s that simple? The ruling elite uses corporate media and their degenerate mouthpieces to bamboozle the millions of Americans who were predisposed from childhood experiences to act against their best interests? Is that it?

It’s true that if “People In Authority” lie to the masses for over a generation, you’ll get people who are crazier than outhouse rats believing Ignorance is Strength, War is Peace, and chocolate rations are up, but how do you explain the millions of Americans who don’t buy into the lies of The Elite?

Better yet … how do you explain people from within the same family who have completely different political points of view. Lately I’ve thought it might have something to do with that boogeyman word: Evolution.

I know two brothers, a few years apart, who had essentially the same upbringing. Same parents, same schools, same books, same food … same culture. One thinks Henry Kissinger was one of our greatest statesmen while the other thinks Kissinger is one of the worst war criminals who ever lived. One is a textbook example of the Authoritarian personality and the other is a liberal to the core. Is it some gene or group of genes deep in the DNA somewhere that suddenly are switched on … or off? It is something “new” in our evolutionary history where Liberal mutants from out of the blue pop up?

A study published in the March 2010 issue of the peer-reviewed scientific journal Social Psychology Quarterly explains it all for you.

Why Liberals and Atheists Are More Intelligent by Satoshi Kanazawa

Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics and Political Science, advances a new theory to explain why people form particular preferences and values.

In the current study, Kanazawa argues that humans are evolutionarily designed to be conservative, caring mostly about their family and friends, and being liberal, caring about an indefinite number of genetically unrelated strangers they never meet or interact with, is “evolutionarily novel.”

"Evolutionarily novel" preferences and values are those that humans are not biologically designed to have and our ancestors probably did not possess. In contrast, those that our ancestors had for millions of years are "evolutionarily familiar."

… Similarly, religion is a byproduct of humans' tendency to perceive agency and intention as causes of events, to see "the hands of God" at work behind otherwise natural phenomena. "Humans are evolutionarily designed to be paranoid, and they believe in God because they are paranoid," says Kanazawa. This innate bias toward paranoia served humans well when self-preservation and protection of their families and clans depended on extreme vigilance to all potential dangers. "So, more intelligent children are more likely to grow up to go against their natural evolutionary tendency to believe in God, and they become atheists."

Young adults who identify themselves as "not at all religious" have an average IQ of 103 during adolescence, while those who identify themselves as "very religious" have an average IQ of 97 during adolescence.

According to Kanazawa, the evolutionarily familiar is conservative and the evolutionarily novel is liberal, and more intelligent people are more likely to adopt evolutionarily novel preferences and values. The problem is … the evolutionarily familiar has outlived its usefulness. The qualities that helped humankind gain a toehold in history are rapidly proving to be counter productive to our future survival. And the dim-bulb conservative elite … and their base … literally aren’t smart enough to see that. The only way out of this multi-level mess is to utilize evolutionarily novel solutions.

Our military and intelligence analysts say the changing global climate will pose profound strategic challenges to the United States in coming decades, raising the prospect of military intervention to deal with the effects of violent storms, drought, mass migration and pandemics, but still the conservative elite and their bozo base deny global climate change because of … snow.

Our Ruling Elite, by clinging to the outmoded evolutionarily familiar, is having a psychotic break with reality. And how do you convince people they're being irrational by using a rational argument? Can't be done. You can only throw a net over them, pump em full of drugs, and hope after many many many therapeutic sessions with highly paid professionals they'll have an AHA-I-see-the-light-moment.

Now then ... let's try to pull that off when the people suffering from the psychotic break from reality ... own the asylum. And everything else worth owning.

Evolutionarily novel solutions ain’t gonna happen as long as evolution is a dirty word, and the evolutionarily familiar slogan of “Beware The Other … Beware The Mutant” is the message behind every single program pumped out by FOX News. A friend of mine once said that most people are just smart enough to make themselves miserable. They’re smart enough to see what has to be done … but incapable of doing anything about it.

So are we to join the rest of the dinosaurs trundling down to the tar pit … or shall we arise Mutant Nation and kick the dummies out?

The discrepancy between the kind of society many Germans thought they were building and the reality of the horror of the Third Reich presents one of the most intriguing questions of our age. How could Fascism -- have happened in a modern, industrialized, educated nation?

Deep Green Resistance - Strategy to Save the Planet
Aric McBay, Lierre Keith, and Derrick Jensen

For years, Derrick Jensen has asked his audiences, “Do you think this culture will undergo a voluntary transformation to a sane and sustainable way of life?” No one ever says yes.

Deep Green Resistance starts where the environmental movement leaves off: industrial civilization is incompatible with life. Technology can’t fix it, and shopping—no matter how green—won’t stop it. To save this planet, we need a serious resistance movement that can bring down the industrial economy. Deep Green Resistance evaluates strategic options for resistance, from nonviolence to guerrilla warfare, and the conditions required for those options to be successful.

The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder
by Vincent Bugliosi

"I hope that at some time in the near future a courageous U.S. attorney general, U.S. attorney, state attorney general, or district attorney in America who is committed to the rule of law and who has dedicated his career to enforcing the law fairly against all who, big or small, violate it, will hear the cries for justice from the graves of the thousands upon thousands of men, women, and children who had their lives violently cut short because of the lies of a man who smiled through it all. And that, with a sense of uncompromising righteousness, he will take the ample case I have laid out in this book before an American jury to let them decide whether George W Bush is guilty or not guilty of murder, and if so, what his punishment should be.

Even if this doesn't happen and what I have said in this book receives all the attention of a new fly in the forest, I do know that someone had to say what is written on the pages of this book."

Family of Secrets: The Bush Dynasty, the Powerful Forces That Put It in the White House, and What Their Influence Means for America
by Russ Baker

How did Bush happen? How did George W. Bush, of all people, rise to the most powerful position in the world? This simple question sparked a five-year investigative odyssey by Russ Baker. What he found will force us to rethink virtually everything we thought we knew about the Bush family and its role in shaping recent American history.

In FAMILY OF SECRETS, Baker reveals that Bush, the people around him, and his policies are but an extreme, very public manifestation of what his family and its circle have always been about: an interlocking web of covert and overt machinations on behalf of a small cluster of elites-social, financial, industrial, military, intelligence-that enabled the Bush dynasty and propelled George W. Bush to the top.

Rules for Radicals
by Saul D Alinsky

"What follows is for those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be. The Prince was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. Rules for Radicals is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away."

In 1971, Saul Alinsky wrote an entertaining classic on grassroots organizing titled Rules for Radicals. For Alinsky, organizing is the process of highlighting what is wrong and convincing people they can actually do something about it.

The End of America: Letter of Warning To A Young Patriot
by Naomi Wolf

In a stunning indictment of the Bush administration and Congress, best-selling author Naomi Wolf lays out her case for saving American democracy. In authoritative research and documentation Wolf explains how events of the last six years parallel steps taken in the early years of the 20th century’s worst dictatorships such as Germany, Russia, China, and Chile.

The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism
by Naomi Klein

Naomi Klein's The Shock Doctrine advances a truly unnerving argument: historically, while people were reeling from natural disasters, wars and economic upheavals, savvy politicians and industry leaders nefariously implemented policies that would never have passed during less muddled times. As Klein demonstrates, this reprehensible game of bait-and-switch isn't just some relic from the bad old days. It's alive and well in contemporary society, and coming soon to a disaster area near you. --Kim Hughes
